Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha emphasized on Saturday that women-led development is crucial for overcoming challenges such as terrorism and drug addiction, and for fostering a peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking at the valedictory function of a women’s vocational training course at the Army Goodwill School in Balapur, Shopian, Sinha felicitated women who completed vocational training and life enhancement skill courses. These courses were offered at the school and five other Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Enhancement Centres across Pulwama, Kulgam, Budgam, Anantnag, and Pampore.
Sinha highlighted that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, women’s empowerment has become a mass movement in Jammu and Kashmir. He stated, “The social and economic upliftment of women has been our top priority. I strongly believe that women-led development will lead us to overcoming challenges like terrorism, drug addiction, other social evils, and to build a peaceful and prosperous J&K.”
He further noted that ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power) has significantly impacted the rural economy, and that multi-pronged approaches and women-centric initiatives have empowered women in J&K through training and financial support. “It is being ensured that women are not just beneficiaries of development, but a key partner in Jammu and Kashmir’s growth journey,” Sinha added.
Sinha called for an annual follow-up for participants after they complete their training and launch businesses. He also stressed the importance of a planned approach to narrow the gender gap in entrepreneurship, especially in rural areas, and to encourage women to scale up their businesses. He urged recognition and respect for women’s abilities and contributions, advocating for continuous efforts to promote their leadership roles across all sectors.
The LG commended Monica Pal Bharti, her team from Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Vikas evam Sewa Sansthan, Project Toha Social, and the Indian Army for their initiative in empowering 1,481 women through vocational training, including the 125 women from the recently concluded course.
Paying tribute to Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Sinha acknowledged him as a pioneer of women’s rights and empowerment, stating that his values of selfless service, equality, and social justice continue to guide the nation. He also praised the Indian Army’s community engagement and development programs, highlighting their role in ensuring India’s unity and integrity while also contributing to societal transformation.
