A Budgam resident, Syed Abas Shah, was arrested on Friday for cheating students by promising them admission in MBBS courses in Iran.
Shah, who ran an educational consultancy called “Dr Minds” in Parraypora, allegedly took lakhs of rupees from students in lieu of admissions. However, he did not have any affiliation with any Iranian medical schools.
The students eventually realized that they had been cheated and filed a complaint with the police. Shah was arrested on Friday and booked under sections 468,420 of the Indian Penal Code.
The police said that Shah is being interrogated and more arrests are likely.
