The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Section Officer from the Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section of the Agriculture Production Department, Civil Secretariat, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, for accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 through a UPI transaction.
The arrest follows a complaint filed on March 5, 2025, alleging that the accused demanded a ₹5 lakh bribe to expedite the appointment of the complainant’s father as a Stock Assistant. This appointment was related to a 2007 J&K Service Selection Board advertisement and a subsequent order from the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Jammu, dated October 15, 2024.
According to the complaint, the bribe amount was negotiated down to ₹50,000, which the accused instructed the complainant to transfer via UPI. The accused indicated that the remaining balance would be demanded upon a favorable decision.
On March 5, 2025, the CBI set up a trap and apprehended the accused immediately after he received the ₹50,000 bribe through the specified UPI transaction. Simultaneously, the CBI conducted searches at the accused’s residence in Jammu.
The arrested official was presented before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu, on March 6, 2025. The court remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody. The CBI investigation is ongoing.
