Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the dynamism and innovation of India’s youth at the YUGM Conclave in New Delhi. He characterized them as “R and D—ready and disruptive,” highlighting their significant contributions to research and groundbreaking innovations.
Modi pointed to India’s rising prominence in global higher education rankings and the expansion of Indian universities internationally, which he believes will foster greater academic exchange. He stressed the importance of “talent,” defining it as a combination of temperament and technology, which he believes will be transformative for the nation’s future.
Regarding artificial intelligence, Modi announced the development of world-class infrastructure, including high-quality data sets and research facilities, through India’s AI Mission. He expressed a vision for India to become a leader in AI technology. To this end, he revealed the launch of super hubs for artificial intelligence, intelligence systems, bioscience, biotechnology, health, and medicine at IIT Kanpur and IIT Bombay. Additionally, he acknowledged the launch of the Wadhwani Innovation Network and a collaborative research initiative with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation, congratulating the Wadhwani Foundation, the IITs, and other involved parties.
Modi reiterated the goal of achieving a developed India within the next 25 years. He stressed the urgency of this mission, advocating for the rapid translation of research from the laboratory to the market. He argued that shortening this process would accelerate the impact of research on people’s lives and further motivate researchers.
