Heavy torrential rains have caused severe damage in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in Trilla Village of Udhampur district, where multiple houses have collapsed. Residents, like Sharda Devi, whose house was completely destroyed, are urging the government for immediate relief, including accommodation and temporary tents. Pawan Kumar, Sharda Devi’s son, highlighted that the devastation extends to 3-4 other houses in their village.
Meanwhile, in Ramban district, all spillway gates of the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project have been opened due to rising water levels in the Chenab River, a precautionary measure taken by NHPC officials. The Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramban, Varunjeet Singh Charak, has issued warnings to the public to stay away from riverbanks and tributaries, coordinating with Revenue, Police, SDRF, and Rural Development Department officers, as well as local authorities like Lamberdars and Chowkidars, to ensure public safety.
The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a fresh weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting potential flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas in the coming days. The forecast indicates mostly hot and humid weather with isolated rain or thundershowers from August 1 to 3. From August 4 to 6, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected across many areas, with a possibility of heavy downpours in certain parts of the Jammu Division, especially during late night and early morning hours.
