Man Cheats Foreigner in Srinagar, Convicted 12 Years Later

In a significant legal development, the Court of City Judge Srinagar has convicted two individuals, Mukhtar Ahmad Guroo and Nazir Ahmad Guroo, for their involvement in a property fraud case that spanned over 12 years. The brothers were found guilty of cheating a foreign national of Rs 34 lakh by deceptively entering into a property deal. The court found that the Guroo brothers intentionally concealed the fact that the complainant, as a foreigner, was legally prohibited from purchasing immovable property in Jammu and Kashmir. Following an investigation by the Crime Branch Kashmir (now the Economic Offences Wing), the court sentenced both individuals to two years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 each.
