Former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik passed away at the age of 79 on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He died around 1 pm at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, where he was undergoing treatment.
Malik served as the last Governor of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir from August 2018 to October 2019. His tenure is notable as it was during this time, on August 5, 2019, that Article 370 was abrogated, revoking the state’s special status. Today marks the sixth anniversary of that decision.
