Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha is overseeing the rescue and relief efforts in the cloudburst-hit Kishtwar district. He has pledged to rebuild the homes destroyed by flash floods in the village of Chasoti.
Sinha directed officials to ensure a continuous supply of essential items for those affected. In a post on X, he stated, “I will ensure the reconstruction of homes damaged in flash floods.”
The tragedy struck Chasoti, the last motorable village on the route to the Machail Mata temple, around 12:25 p.m. on August 14. The flash flood left 60 people dead and over 100 injured, destroying a temporary market, a community kitchen, and a security outpost. At least 16 homes and government buildings, three temples, four water mills, a bridge, and more than a dozen vehicles were also damaged.
