The minimum temperature in Kashmir has improved, providing some relief to residents from the intense cold conditions. However, a thick layer of fog has engulfed the valley.
The only place where the temperature dropped below freezing was Gulmarg, which recorded a minimum of -1.2 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 3.5 degrees Celsius, up from zero degrees Celsius the previous night.
Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 2.6 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag town recorded a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam, a tourist destination in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, recorded a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of -1.8 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office has said that shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue till Tuesday at many places in Kashmir.
The weather is generally cloudy at most places in Jammu and Kashmir and it will likely remain so with light rain or snow at isolated places till Tuesday.
From Wednesday, there are chances of light to moderate rain or snow at fairly widespread places with the possibility of thunderstorms or lightning at a few places over two days.
