The Indian government has approved an extension of the Digital India project with an outlay of Rs 14,903 crore. The project will add on to the work done under the previous version of the scheme, which aimed to make India digitally empowered.
Under the extended project, 5.25 lakh IT professionals will be reskilled and upskilled, and 2.65 lakh persons will be trained in IT. Nine more super computers will also be added under the National Supercomputing Mission (NCM).
The minister for electronics and information technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said that the extended project will help India to become a global leader in the digital economy. He also said that the project will create jobs and boost economic growth.
The Digital India project was launched in 2015 with the goal of transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The project has made significant progress in recent years, with over 600 million Indians now having access to the internet.
