The Jammu Province Drug Control Organization conducted a special drive to inspect drug sale establishments. The drive was aimed at ensuring that habit-forming drugs are sold only to needy patients and that pharmacies operate in accordance with the law.
During the drive, statutory drug samples of nearly 200 formulations were randomly lifted for testing. The samples were sent to drug testing laboratories in Jammu and Kashmir to determine their strength and purity.
The drive resulted in the suspension of operations of 12 retail sale establishments in Jammu, Samba, Poonch, Kathua, and Ramban districts. The reasons for suspension included non-maintenance of sales records, impersonation, and improper storage conditions.
The regulatory officers also confiscated stocks of drugs worth Rs 3,86,100 that were found to be in violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
In addition, the drug control organization seized stocks of drugs worth Rs 27,465 from an unlicensed shop in Lower Kud. The court has granted permission to the drug control organization to investigate the matter further. A notice has been issued to the accused under section 18 (a) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
The licensing authority has also cancelled the license of a wholesale firm in Rajouri for indulging in unethical trade practices.
