A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held in Leh to pay tribute to the nine Indian Army soldiers who died in a road accident on Saturday. The accident occurred when an army truck veered off the road and plunged into a gorge near Kiari.
The ceremony was attended by the Fire and Fury Corps Commander and all ranks of the army. They paid homage to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Army Chief General Manoj Pande expressed his grief on the loss of lives in the tragic accident. He said that the army stands with the families of the deceased soldiers in this hour of grief.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had also condoled the loss of lives in the accident.
The soldiers who died in the accident have been identified as:
- Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) Rajeshwar Singh
- Sepoys Sunil Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Ramesh Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Dhananjay Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Sandeep Kumar, and Nitin Kumar
The accident is a reminder of the sacrifices that the Indian Army makes every day to protect the country. We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers.
