The Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday detained a Pakistani national who crossed the international border and entered the Indian territory inadvertently near Kamirpura village in Punjab’s Amritsar (Rural) district.
The Pakistani national, who has not been identified, was apprehended by BSF troops ahead of the border fence. During questioning, he said that he had crossed over to Indian territory inadvertently while grazing his cattle.
The BSF approached Pakistan Rangers and lodged a protest on the matter. On July 14, at about 7:00 pm, the Pakistani national was handed over to Pakistan Rangers on humanitarian grounds.
This is the second time in recent weeks that the BSF has detained a Pakistani national who crossed the border inadvertently. In June, the BSF arrested a Pakistani national in Ferozepur district who had also crossed over to Indian territory inadvertently.
The BSF has said that it always takes a humane approach while dealing with inadvertent border crossers.
