In response to mounting public pressure over the acute drinking water shortage in the district, the Jal Shakti Department has taken strict disciplinary action against its officials.
Two employees have been suspended and two others issued show-cause notices for their alleged failure to manage water supply effectively. The Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of PHE Sub Division Baramulla and the Junior Engineer (JE) of PHE Sub Division Pattan have been given two days to explain their role in the crisis, which has led to widespread public protests, including road blockades.
The suspended employees are an Assistant Lineman from PHE Sub Division Watergam and a Helper from PHE Sub Division Baramulla. The Assistant Lineman faces a potential fine of Rs. 50,000, pending a formal investigation into the charges against him.
The department has clearly indicated its zero-tolerance policy towards negligence in addressing the critical issue of water scarcity.
