Anti-Corruption Bureau Nabs Patwari for Taking Bribe

On October 5, 2023, the ACB in Srinagar, India, arrested Ashiq Hussain, Patwari of Halqa Sharifabad, District Budgam, for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹10000 for making an entry in revenue records.

The ACB received a written complaint from a resident of Budgam alleging that Hussain was demanding the bribe for making an online entry in the Jamabandi, the land revenue record, in respect of the complainant’s land.

On receipt of the complaint, the ACB registered a case under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and constituted a trap team. The team laid a trap and caught Hussain red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant.

Hussain was arrested on the spot and taken into custody. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.

This is a welcome development in the fight against corruption in India. The ACB is playing a crucial role in deterring and punishing corrupt public officials. The arrest of Hussain sends a strong message that corruption will not be tolerated.
