The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced on Friday that the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft has covered about two-thirds of the distance to the Moon. The spacecraft is scheduled to enter lunar orbit on August 5, 2023.
Chandrayaan-3 is India’s third lunar exploration mission. It will make India the fourth country after the United States, China, and Russia to land a spacecraft on the Moon. The mission’s objectives include a safe and soft landing, the deployment of a rover, and the conduct of scientific experiments.
The spacecraft was launched on July 14, 2023, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. It is currently undergoing a series of orbit maneuvers to reach the Moon.
The Chandrayaan-3 mission is a significant step forward for India’s space program. It will demonstrate the country’s capabilities in lunar exploration and help to enhance our understanding of the Moon.
