In a significant step towards combating the drug menace, the Kishtwar District Police have apprehended a drug peddler and recovered a substantial amount of heroin.
Acting on credible intelligence, a police team from Kishtwar Police Station established a checkpoint at Link Road, Malipeth Lower Kishtwar. During a routine check, the team intercepted an individual identified as Shoukat Ali, a resident of Dhammi, Jammu.
A thorough search of the suspect revealed approximately 11 grams of a substance suspected to be heroin in his possession.
A case has been registered against Shoukat Ali under FIR No. 289/2024 under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Kishtwar Police Station.
SSP Kishtwar, Sh. Javaid Iqbal Mir, has directed the Investigating Officer to conduct a thorough investigation to identify the source of the drugs and apprehend any other individuals involved in the drug trafficking network.
The investigation will include examining the accused’s financial transactions and bank records to trace the origins and beneficiaries of the illicit drug trade.
SSP Mir reiterated the Kishtwar Police’s commitment to eradicating drug abuse and protecting the youth from the harmful effects of drug addiction. He urged the public to actively cooperate with the police by promptly reporting any suspicious activities or individuals involved in drug-related offenses.
