“A tragic bus accident near Handwara has resulted in the deaths of two college students from GDC Sogam, with 22 others injured. The students were en route to a picnic when the bus overturned in Vodhpora.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families via X, stating, “The loss of two young promising students from GDC Sogam, in the tragic accident near Handwara is a tragedy that weighs heavily on all of us. My deepest condolences to their families in this hour of grief. Prayers for the swift recovery of the injured.” He also assured that the government is providing necessary medical and logistical support.
Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, visited GMC Handwara to assess the situation and ensure the injured students receive adequate care. She confirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting the victims and their families and stated that a police investigation will follow.
Dr. Aijaz, Medical Superintendent of GMC Handwara, reported that while two critically injured students were transferred to Srinagar for advanced treatment, the remaining injured are in stable condition and are being closely monitored. He emphasized that all necessary medical care is being provided.
The incident has prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
