India has airlifted over 21 tonnes of relief material to Nepal in the ongoing humanitarian relief mission for the country. The Indian Air Force’s C-130J aircraft has been making regular sorties to Nepalgunj with essential supplies, including tents, tarpaulin sheets, blankets, sleeping bags, medicines, and medical equipment.
India was one of the first responders to the earthquake in Nepal, and its rapid response is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Neighbourhood First Policy.” External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that India is committed to supporting its neighbouring nations in times of crisis.
The Indian Embassy in Nepal has stated that the emergency aid package to Nepal reaffirms India’s commitment to be the first responder in crisis situations in its neighbourhood and beyond. India had also extended USD 1 billion to Nepal as part of its long-term assistance for post-earthquake reconstruction.
