In a major breakthrough, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced the successful flight-testing of a fuel cell technology on Friday. This test aimed to assess the cell’s performance in space and gather crucial data for designing future mission systems.
ISRO emphasized the importance of fuel cells for powering space habitats efficiently and sustainably. Unlike traditional methods, these cells release only water as a byproduct, making them ideal for cleaner and more environmentally conscious space exploration.
The test involved a 100-watt Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell Power System (FCPS) developed by the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. This system was launched aboard the PSLV-C58 rocket on January 1st and deployed in the agency’s orbital platform POEM3.
