A traffic cop was among three people killed in a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles in Maloora area of Shalteng in Srinagar on Monday.
The crash took place near Petrol Pump Maloora when a three-wheeler (auto), a tipper and a Maruti car collided. The impact of the crash was so severe that three people, including the traffic cop, were killed on the spot. Several others were also injured in the crash.
The deceased traffic cop has been identified as Zahoor Ashraf, a resident of Pattan in Baramulla district. The other two deceased persons have not been identified yet.
The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident and said that they have taken cognizance of the matter. He said that the police are investigating the cause of the crash and will take appropriate action.
The crash has caused widespread shock and grief in the area. People have expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased and demanded that the authorities take steps to prevent such accidents from happening again.
