The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested a junior assistant in the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) office in Rajouri for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000.
The ACB received a complaint from an individual who was trying to register three marlas of land. The complainant had submitted the necessary paperwork to Umar Nawaz, a junior assistant who also held the additional charge of Sub-Registrar. Nawaz initially demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 to process the registration, which was later negotiated down to Rs 4,000.
Because the complainant was unable to pay the illegal gratification, they contacted the ACB. An FIR was registered, and a trap team was assembled. The team successfully caught Nawaz red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the Rs 4,000 bribe. The bribe money was recovered from his possession, and he was immediately arrested.
Following the arrest, a search was conducted at Nawaz’s home in Thanamandi, Rajouri. The investigation into the case is ongoing.
