The NC-Congress alliance won a landslide victory in the Kargil hill council polls, bagging 22 of the 26 seats. The BJP and independents managed to win only two seats each.
The alliance hailed the results as a “referendum” against the Centre’s decision to abrogate Article 370 and bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir.
NC and Congress workers celebrated the victory at their party headquarters in Jammu. CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami said the poll result created a hope for all of us as well.
The Kargil poll result is quite contrary to the BJP’s claim that it enjoys massive support in Ladakh. The message from the people of Kargil is clear: nobody should take the masses for granted.
The poll outcome in Kargil was on the expected lines and it gives hope to all of us.
