Kashmir: Light Rain, Snow Expected Late February

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Srinagar has issued a weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting a fresh spell of light to moderate rain and snow from February 25th to 28th. Isolated heavy snowfall is also expected in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

This forecast comes after a significant drop in temperatures across the region in the past 24 hours. Daytime temperatures plummeted by 6-14°C, with Kashmir experiencing a 7-14°C decrease. Gulmarg recorded the lowest daytime temperature at 1.0°C. In the Jammu division, Kathua saw the highest daytime temperature at 15.8°C.

Nighttime temperatures also fell, with Bhaderwah and Banihal in Jammu recording lows of -2.4°C, and Gulmarg in Kashmir dropping to -5.6°C.

Widespread precipitation has already been observed in the last 24 hours, contributing to the current cold wave. The upcoming weather system from February 25th to 28th is expected to bring further disruption, with the potential for isolated heavy rain and snow impacting daily life.
