Kashmir is experiencing a heat wave with record-breaking temperatures. It’s even hotter than Kolkata! Srinagar reached 34.6°C on Tuesday, the second-highest July temperature in a decade.
Many areas are 5°C hotter than usual, causing water shortages. The health department has issued heat advisories and schools are closed for summer break.
The heat is keeping people indoors and driving up sales of air conditioners, fans, and coolers. Traffic is bad and car AC repair shops are busy.
Some relief is expected soon. There’s a chance of rain or thunderstorms on Thursday, followed by moderate rain showers across Kashmir on July 5th and 6th. It will be hot and humid again from July 8th to 10th.
