Following a series of severe weather events in the region, a cloudburst in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district has tragically resulted in four deaths and widespread damage. The disaster has affected critical infrastructure, including a railway track, the national highway, and the local police station.
Officials report that a separate incident in Jodh village involving a landslide and flash floods has trapped six individuals, with several connecting roads washed away. According to Kathua Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, rescue teams are on site and actively engaged in operations.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh has confirmed that police, military, and civil administration teams are working together on rescue efforts and are closely monitoring the situation. In a post on X, he offered his condolences to the families of the victims.
Rescue Efforts Underway in Kishtwar
In a separate event, security forces have ramped up rescue and relief operations in the Kishtwar district after a flash flood on August 14, triggered by a cloudburst during the Machail Mata Yatra, left approximately 55 people dead.
Major General APS Bal, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Counter Insurgency Force, Delta, stated that all security forces are doing their best to save lives and provide relief to the affected local population. He noted that the Indian Army was the first to respond to the disaster, arriving on the scene within 45 minutes.
The Indian Army is leading the ground operations, with support from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Border Roads Organisation (BRO), police, and local administration.
