The Kedarnath Temple has banned photography and videography inside the temple premises, following a recent video of a woman blogger proposing to her boyfriend in front of the temple that went viral.
The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee has put up boards at various places on the temple premises stating that any kind of photography or videography is strictly prohibited inside the temple. The boards also state that devotees should wear “decent clothes” and desist from setting up tents or camps in the temple precincts.
Temple Committee president Ajendra Ajay said that the ban on photography and videography was necessary to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for worship. He said that a religious space follows a set of belief systems and that devotees should respect these.
The ban has been met with mixed reactions from devotees. Some have welcomed the move, saying that it will help to preserve the sanctity of the temple. Others have expressed disappointment, saying that they will no longer be able to take pictures or videos of their visit to the temple.
The ban will be enforced by the temple authorities and legal action will be taken against those who violate the rules.
