A cloudburst in Chositi village, Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, has triggered a major rescue and relief operation. According to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, rescue teams with personnel and machinery are on site, with additional teams being dispatched to the remote mountain village.
The cloudburst, which occurred on Thursday, has so far resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people, including two CISF personnel. Many are still feared trapped. Rescue efforts have saved 98 people, 28 of whom are in serious condition.
LG Sinha has briefed Home Minister Amit Shah on the ongoing operations. Shah has reportedly assured the administration of all possible assistance.
