Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha praised Kupwara for its role in strengthening democracy and for becoming a torchbearer for the rest of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that the district had once been considered a hotbed of terrorism, but was now moving ahead on the path of development and peace. Sinha attributed this progress to the hard work and dedication of the people of Kupwara, who he said had “tremendously contributed towards nation building.”
Sinha also spoke about the importance of border tourism in Kupwara, and said that the government was keen to develop the basic infrastructure in the area to attract more tourists. He highlighted the recent inauguration of a multi-purpose indoor stadium worth Rs 4 crore, which he said would provide a platform for local players to engage in sports activities.
Sinha also compared J&K’s sports budget to that of Uttar Pradesh, the largest state in the country. He said that J&K had a larger sports budget than UP, and that the government’s goal was to engage more and more youth in sports activities.
