Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha of Jammu and Kashmir visited the grieving families of three police officers who were killed in a recent encounter with Pakistani terrorists in the Kathua district. He offered his condolences and pledged full government support.
The Lieutenant Governor’s visits included:
- The home of Balvinder Singh Chib in Kanna Chak, Kathua district.
- The family of Jaswant Singh in Londi village, near the International Border (IB).
- The family of Tariq Ahmad in Chamba village, Reasi district.
Sinha assured each family that the government would provide jobs to the next of kin, primarily the widows of the deceased officers. The wives requested civilian jobs due to their responsibility for young children. He emphasized that the nation stood with them and that all efforts would be made to ensure their support. Later, he also planned to visit the family of Head Constable Jagbir Singh in the Akhnoor area of the Jammu district.
This series of events follows an encounter that began after police tracked a group of terrorists based on local intelligence. The clash occurred in Sanyal village, near the Pakistani border, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists and four police officers. The officers who lost there lives were, Balvinder Singh Chib, Jaswant Singh, Tariq Ahmad, and Head Constable Jagbir Singh. The bodies of the officers and the two terrorists, believed to be members of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), were recovered along with weapons. The People’s Anti-Fascist Front, a JeM affiliate, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
