Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Elon Musk held a recent conversation, building upon their discussions from a prior meeting in Washington D.C. They reaffirmed India’s dedication to strengthening technological and innovative partnerships with the United States.
“Spoke to @elonmusk and talked about various issues, including the topics we covered during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We discussed the immense potential for collaboration in the areas of technology and innovation. India remains committed to advancing our partnerships with the US in these domains,” Modi stated on X (formerly Twitter).
This exchange occurs amidst growing speculation regarding Musk’s potential expansion of Tesla and Starlink into the Indian market. During Modi’s state visit to the U.S., they explored opportunities in electric vehicles, satellite internet, and space cooperation.
Musk has previously identified India as a “natural destination” for Tesla’s manufacturing and sales, though high import tariffs on electric vehicles have presented challenges. Starlink, Musk’s satellite internet venture, is progressing towards an Indian launch through partnerships with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, pending regulatory approval.
The Indian government is increasingly focused on fostering these high-tech collaborations, reflecting its objectives of digital inclusion, sustainable transportation, and technological independence.
