Jammu, July 25, 2025 – Jammu Police have dismantled a significant “duplicate paneer” (adulterated cheese) syndicate, arresting three individuals and seizing a massive 800 kilograms of the counterfeit product. The bust occurred Friday as the illicit consignment was being transported from Delhi to Katra.
“In an act of alertness and an effort to safeguard the general public from consuming duplicate cheese (Paneer), a team of Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu did a splendid job by recovering around 800 kgs of duplicate cheese from a bus which was on its way from Delhi to Katra, being transported for illegal distribution,” a Police spokesperson stated.
Acting on a credible tip-off, a team from Police Station Bagh-e-Bahu, led by the SHO and supervised by senior officers, intercepted a bus (AP-20B-0888) at Naka Point Bravo-3. The bus, driven by Abdul Ahad of Loran Kharpa, Poonch, was en route from Delhi to Katra.
At the time of interception, two other individuals, Arif Hussain of Malik Market and Mysir Bhat of Magam Kokernag, Anantnag, were found actively unloading the suspected duplicate paneer from the bus into their respective autos (JK02DG-1890 and JK02CN-2757). Police believe this “fake paneer” was intended for distribution to various dairy stores across Jammu city.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the seized consignment belonged to Mohd Iqbal of Takia Kokernag and Manzoor Ahmad Sardan, also from Kokernag, who is currently residing at Bus Stand Jammu.
The Food Safety Department has been notified, and samples of the seized paneer have been collected for analysis. Police have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend the entire network behind this illegal operation.
Reiterating their commitment to public health and safety, Jammu Police urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to food adulteration.
