Good news for Kashmiris! The long-lasting dry spell is finally expected to end next week, bringing much-needed moisture to the region.
The Meteorological (MeT) department predicts wet weather starting from January 25th. Light snowfall is expected at isolated higher reaches on Thursday, followed by scattered light rain or snow in various areas on Friday and Saturday.
The most significant precipitation is anticipated between January 29th and 31st, with different weather models suggesting a high possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall across many places.
This news comes as a relief for residents and the government, who were concerned about the alarmingly dry conditions. The absence of winter rainfall and snowfall during the ongoing “Chillai Kalan” period, a 40-day stretch of harsh winter cold ending on January 30th, had raised concerns about water scarcity and agricultural prospects.
Meanwhile, temperatures continue to dip in the valley. Srinagar recorded a further drop, with the minimum temperature reaching -4.9°C last night, compared to -4.6°C the previous night. Pulwama remained the coldest place in Kashmir at -6.9°C.
