Authorities in Srinagar have launched a major crackdown on the sale of rotten and adulterated meat throughout the Kashmir valley.
In a joint operation, the Srinagar Police and the Food Safety Department raided several locations in the city, seizing and destroying a large quantity of unhygienic and expired meat. The action, which is part of an ongoing effort to protect public health, was carried out under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
During one raid, officials from the Srinagar Police and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) inspected a cold-storage unit in Parimpora and confiscated the facility along with the rotten meat stored there.
In a separate operation, authorities identified two suspects, Abdul Hameed Kuchay and Arif Ahmad Shah, who allegedly conspired to supply decomposed meat to various restaurants and hotels across the city. Police have registered a case against them under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is currently underway.
The Srinagar Police stated that these inspections and legal actions will continue in collaboration with other departments to ensure food-safety standards are met and to protect the public.
