Srinagar, the beautiful summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed a slight increase in its nighttime temperature on Tuesday. The city recorded a low of minus 2.4°C, which is 0.5°C below the average temperature for this time of year. Despite the slight warming, the night remained frigid.
Compared to the previous night’s minus 4.3°C, Srinagar experienced a welcome 1.9°C rise in temperature. This trend extended to other parts of Kashmir as well.
Qazigund, the gateway town to Kashmir, saw its minimum temperature climb from minus 4.2°C to a more comfortable minus 2.6°C, exceeding normal by 0.5°C. Similarly, Pahalgam, the renowned resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 4.4°C, a 0.9°C increase compared to the previous night. This reading was a whopping 2.6°C above normal for the region.
Kokernag, another south Kashmiri town, also enjoyed a warmer night, with its minimum temperature rising from minus 2.1°C to minus 1.2°C. This rise of 0.9°C put the temperature a significant 2.8°C above the average for Kokernag.
However, not all parts of Kashmir experienced this warming trend. Kupwara town in north Kashmir remained colder than usual, recording a low of minus 4.5°C, a slight dip from the previous night’s minus 5.0°C. This reading was 1.8°C below the normal temperature for the region.
Meanwhile, Gulmarg, the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, enjoyed a pleasant surprise with its minimum temperature increasing from minus 4.0°C to minus 4.6°C. This rise of 0.6°C put the temperature a delightful 3.2°C above normal.
Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir, also witnessed a slight increase in its nighttime temperature, recording a low of 5.1°C, up from 4.3°C on the previous night. However, this temperature was still 2.3°C below the average for Jammu.
