Team India thrashes Sri Lanka by 302 runs, qualifies for World Cup 2023 semifinals

India thrashed Sri Lanka by 302 runs in Mumbai on Thursday to become the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Virat Kohli (88), Shubman Gill (92), and Shreyas Iyer (82) all scored half-centuries as India posted a mammoth 357/8 after batting first.

Dilshan Madushanka picked up a five-wicket haul for Sri Lanka, but it was not enough to prevent India from running riot.

With the ball, India were just as ruthless, with Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami all taking five-wicket hauls as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 55 in just 19.4 overs.

The win was India’s seventh in as many matches, and it underlined their status as the favorites to win the tournament.
