Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Srinagar to express condolences and assess the aftermath of a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people, primarily tourists, were killed.
Shah laid wreaths on the coffins of the victims at the Police Control Room in Srinagar, assuring their families and survivors that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also paid their respects.
Following the wreath-laying ceremony, Shah met with the victims’ families and survivors, reiterating the government’s commitment to apprehending those responsible. He received a briefing from Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and chaired a security review meeting with the Lieutenant Governor to discuss the situation.
The bodies of the victims, who were killed in the Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam, had been transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar earlier that morning and subsequently moved to the Police Control Room. This attack marked one of the deadliest assaults on civilians in Kashmir in recent years.
