Following India’s missile strikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed concern over Pakistan’s deliberate targeting of civilian populations within the Union Territory.
“As reports are emerging, Pakistan has demonstrably targeted civilian populations. We are actively monitoring and addressing the evolving situation,” Abdullah stated to PTI Videos after conducting a review meeting.
He contrasted Pakistan’s actions with India’s efforts to minimize collateral damage during its strikes. “Following the tragic and brutal killing of 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam, India’s response was anticipated. The Indian government and defense forces exercised exceptional care to ensure that only terrorist bases, and not military or civilian targets, were struck in Pakistan,” he emphasized.
Abdullah convened a meeting to evaluate the government’s readiness along the Line of Control (LoC) and border regions of the Union Territory. “A meeting was held to assess security and preparedness along the border and LoC. The focus was on protecting civilian lives, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring a rapid response to any emerging threats,” he posted on X.
Attendees included Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir V K Bhiduri. Jammu-based officials participated via video conference.
This review meeting was prompted by Pakistan’s indiscriminate shelling of civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir, which followed India’s missile strikes against terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan.
