Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Srinagar air base and Badami Bagh Cantonment in Jammu and Kashmir to meet with Indian Air Force (IAF) and Army personnel. He commended their bravery during “Operation Sindoor,” a military response to the April 22nd Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 people were killed.
During his visit, Singh inspected Pakistani shells recovered from cross-border shelling. He praised the soldiers’ destruction of Pakistani posts, stating, “the enemy will never be able to forget Op Sindoor.” He also acknowledged the public’s anger towards Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.
Singh raised concerns about Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities, questioning their safety in the hands of what he called a “rogue” nation. He suggested that Pakistan’s nuclear weapons should be placed under the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s supervision.
“Operation Sindoor,” launched on May 7th, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen. This operation was a direct response to the Pahalgam attack and subsequent Pakistani cross-border shelling and drone attacks. India retaliated by damaging radar installations, communication hubs, and airfields at 11 Pakistani airbases. A ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was announced on May 10th.
