To ensure the safety of pilgrims, the CRPF conducted an extensive anti-sabotage and sanitization operation today at and around the Bhagwati Nagar Amarnath Yatra base camp in Jammu.
Amarnath Yatra Details
The 32-day pilgrimage to the naturally formed ice Shivlingam will begin on July 3. Pilgrims will use two routes: the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag and the shorter, steeper 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal. The first group of pilgrims is scheduled to depart from Jammu’s Bhagwati Nagar base camp and Ram Mandir for the valley on July 2. Last year, over 5.10 lakh pilgrims visited the 3,880-meter high shrine.
Security Measures
CRPF units, aided by sniffer dogs, metal detectors, and surveillance equipment, thoroughly sanitized the parking areas, roads leading to the base camp, the banks of the River Tawi adjacent to the camp, and various other buildings. The Jammu and Kashmir Police’s security wing is managing the Bhagwati Nagar base camp itself, while the CRPF is responsible for security in the surrounding areas.
Official Visits
Ahead of the annual yatra, CRPF Director General Gyanendra Pratap Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat visited the Bhagwati Nagar base camp and held high-level security review meetings. The Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu serves as the main base camp for pilgrims before they proceed to the holy cave shrine in south Kashmir’s Himalayas.
