Former NC MLA Kafil-ur-Rehman Joins PDP

Former Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) leader and two-time Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Karnah constituency, Kafil-ur-Rehman, has officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti extended a warm welcome to Rehman, highlighting his crucial role in representing the people of Karnah and advancing the party’s vision for a “united, dignified, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.”

A PDP official spokesperson announced Rehman’s induction, emphasizing his distinguished career in public service. Rehman began his political journey with the JKNC, winning the Karnah Assembly constituency in both the 2002 and 2008 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections, serving two terms as MLA. In 2008, he defeated Ab Rehman Bhadana of the Jammu & Kashmir Awami National Conference (JKANC).

Mehbooba Mufti stated that Rehman’s decision to join the PDP “reflects our shared commitment to empowering the people of Jammu & Kashmir.” She believes his experience and dedication will significantly strengthen the party’s efforts to address regional challenges and promote inclusive progress.

Kafil-ur-Rehman expressed his gratitude for the welcome and reiterated his commitment to the PDP’s core ideology of “Kashmir First” and inclusive development. He affirmed his focus on “serving the people of Karnah, advocating for their rights, and contributing to a prosperous and united Jammu & Kashmir.”

The PDP statement also noted that Karnah, being close to the Line of Control and having a significant Pahari population, faces unique challenges. Rehman’s extensive experience as an MLA positions him well to champion these issues within the PDP’s framework, which aims to secure and restore Jammu & Kashmir’s distinct position and foster dialogue for the region’s political future.

The JKPDP emphasized its dedication to building an inclusive platform that represents all communities across Jammu & Kashmir, stating that Rehman’s inclusion brings renewed energy to the party’s efforts to create a brighter future for the region.
