Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, highlighted the growing use of cryptocurrency in drug trafficking, with the dark web becoming a primary marketplace. He emphasized the need for law enforcement to adapt to rapidly evolving technologies.
“The traditional methods of drug smuggling are changing. Smugglers and narco-terrorists are utilizing the dark web and cryptocurrency for transactions,” Sinha stated at a police training graduation in Ganderbal. He stressed the increasing prevalence of cybercrime and organized crime facilitated by these new technologies, requiring continuous innovation within the police force.
Sinha acknowledged the security forces’ success in curbing terrorism in the Kashmir Valley, but warned of renewed attempts to destabilize the Jammu region. “While we’ve made significant progress in controlling terrorism in Kashmir, there are efforts to revive it in the previously peaceful Jammu region. I have full confidence that the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with other security forces, will ensure both regions are free from terror,” he said. He called for a unified effort among all agencies to counter external conspiracies.
He underscored the importance of equipping the Jammu and Kashmir Police with advanced technology to address emerging threats. “The J-K Police have a unique and demanding role, balancing counter-terrorism operations with maintaining law and order and fostering a stable environment for development,” Sinha noted.
He commended the police’s recent performance in intelligence sharing and rapid response, asserting that future success in counter-terrorism and law enforcement will depend heavily on effective technology utilization. “A combination of strategic planning, advanced technology, and precise intelligence will be crucial in dismantling the entire terror network,” he concluded.
