The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh alert, forecasting intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across parts of Jammu and Kashmir for the next 6 to 8 hours.
Officials are strongly advising the public in these areas to remain indoors and avoid water bodies, unstable structures, and areas susceptible to landslides.
“Expect moderate rain with periods of intense showers, along with moderate to severe thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in numerous locations across J&K for the next 6-8 hours,” stated a MeT official.
The advisory urges everyone to seek safe shelter indoors and to stay clear of water bodies, loose structures, and landslide-prone zones.
This warning follows heavy rainfall that has already affected much of Jammu and Kashmir since Friday evening. This abrupt weather shift is due to an active Western Disturbance, which is predicted to intensify over the next 48 hours, bringing substantial rain, snowfall, and thunderstorms.
This active Western Disturbance is expected to impact a large portion of J&K and neighboring areas, leading to widespread light to moderate rainfall in the plains and snowfall in higher elevations.
The MeT center in Srinagar has cautioned that several areas, particularly the mid and upper reaches, could experience significant precipitation.
