Kashmir experienced a reprieve from the recent cold spell as temperatures rose above freezing point at most places last night. Srinagar, the region’s summer capital, recorded a minimum temperature of 0.9 degrees Celsius, marking the first time in five days that the temperature stayed above freezing. Other areas, including Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kokernag, Kulgam, and Kupwara, also recorded minimum temperatures between zero degrees Celsius and 1.7 degrees Celsius. Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir, remained the coldest place with a low of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius, followed by Shopian at minus 2.5 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, a renowned ski resort in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.0 degrees Celsius. The rise in temperature is attributed to the arrival of a western disturbance, which is expected to further influence the weather pattern. This change in weather has also resulted in a reduction in early morning fog, bringing some relief to residents.
