Mehbooba Mufti Expresses Hopes for Justice from Supreme Court in Article 370 Hearing

Mehbooba Mufti, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and the chief of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has said that her party has hope that the Supreme Court will do justice in the case challenging the abrogation of Article 370.

Mufti said that the abrogation of Article 370 was not just a legal issue for her, but also an emotional issue for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. She accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of misusing its majority in the Parliament to subvert the Indian Constitution.

The Supreme Court is currently hearing a batch of petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. The Constitution bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, is hearing the case.

The Centre abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 on August 5, 2019.
