A teacher in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district has been suspended after he was accused of sending lewd text messages to his female students.
The teacher, Owais Nanda, was working at Government Higher Secondary School Shutloo Rafiabad. He was suspended by the Chief Education Officer, Baramulla Balbeer Singh, on August 31, pending an inquiry into the matter.
The suspension order said that Nanda would remain attached to the office of the principal of BHSS (Boys Higher Secondary School) Sopore during the period of suspension.
The incident came to light after the locals staged a protest on Friday and demanded stern action against the accused teacher.
A committee led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Baramulla, has been constituted to probe the matter.
Officials said that the teacher had exchanged “lewd text messages” with school girls.
The suspension of the teacher is a welcome step and sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated. The inquiry committee should take swift action and bring the teacher to justice.
The incident has also raised concerns about the safety of students in schools. It is important for schools to have strict policies in place to prevent such incidents from happening.
