The gunfight broke out on Tuesday after security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Narla area of the district. One terrorist and a soldier were killed in the initial exchange of fire. Three security personnel, including a police SPO, were also injured.
On Wednesday, security forces continued the operation and killed another terrorist. The search operation is still underway.
A six-year-old female labrador dog also laid down her life shielding her handler during the encounter. The dog, named Striker, was a member of the National Security Guard (NSG).
The encounter is a major success for security forces as it comes days after a series of terrorist attacks in the Kashmir Valley. The security forces have been on high alert in the region and have stepped up their operations against terrorists.
