Srinagar Police, in a collaborative effort with the Tourist Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), conducted a mock emergency response drill on Dal Lake this Tuesday.
The exercise simulated rescue operations for potential boat capsizing and drowning incidents, according to police reports. This initiative follows two recent boat capsize incidents on the lake within the last month, caused by strong winds, which tragically resulted in the death of a local resident.
Equipped with necessary resources and gear, teams from Srinagar Police, Tourist Police, and SDRF practiced real-time rescue and response procedures. The aim of the drill was to refine effective rescue and response measures for contingent situations, adhering to established guidelines and safety protocols.
The SDRF teams have also increased their capacity building and logistical support to better manage any future emergencies.
Senior officers, including SSP Enforcement, SP Zone East Srinagar, SP HQ Srinagar, DySP HQ Srinagar, and DySP SDRF, were present during the mock drill to oversee the preparedness exercise.
“This mock drill highlights the Jammu & Kashmir Police’s dedication to ensuring swift and effective responses to emergencies, thereby enhancing overall public safety and preparedness in the region,” stated the police.
