Union Home Minister Amit Shah plans to introduce several key bills in Parliament. These include proposed amendments to the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
He will first seek permission to introduce the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which aims to update the current laws for Union Territories. Following that, he will present the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to modify the 2019 Act.
Additionally, Shah will propose a motion to send these two amendment bills, along with a separate Constitution (Amendment) Bill, to a Joint Committee of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha for review. This committee will consist of 21 members from the Lok Sabha, nominated by the Speaker, and a yet-to-be-specified number of members from the Rajya Sabha.
