In an address at the inauguration of the new Administrative Block and Amphitheatre at the Central University of Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha urged students and academics to contribute to India’s growth, with the goal of achieving Viksit Bharat@2047. He emphasized that a key part of this growth model is creating human capital that can significantly contribute to economic progress.
Sinha highlighted the importance of fostering a dynamic learning environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation. He called for an end to the “Sab Chalta hai Attitude” (a “lax” attitude) and stressed the need for revolutionary changes in university curricula to transform India into a knowledge economy. He also noted that top priority should be given to investing in human capital, innovation, and research.
The Lieutenant Governor advocated for interdisciplinary courses, saying they not only develop creativity and skills but also make students aware of their social and moral responsibilities. He described the university as the “axis of development,” with students as its “periphery,” and stated that human development requires better universities, teachers, and learning environments.
Given the fast pace of technological change, Sinha also underlined the need for human resources with lifelong learning skills and the ability to adapt through re-skilling and up-skilling.
The event also marked the start of a seven-day induction program for newly recruited faculty at the university. Dignitaries present included Prof. A. Ravindra Nath, Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir, and other university and government officials.
